More frustrating has been trying to get handle on how to best process the 10D images and work with the camera. The multiple AF points don't seem to help hugely: the system seems to default to picking the point over the closest object rather than the main subject in the centre of the frame. I expect this is just me, and users of the Elan 7, which I gather has a similar system are having no bother. In the mean time, I've configured the Assist Button on CF13 to setting 1, which selects the registered AF point. This I have chosen, using CF07 to be 0: the centre AF point. This is a bit of a nuisance as I was hoping to use the Assist Button as FEL for the flash.
I decided to install the Canon software. Someone responded to a post I made on Pekka's forum that the patched Camera Raw produced a lot of noise. So I figured that I'd better check it out: installed everything but ZoomBrowser — there are limits.
On the plus side, I been playing with the AF in my office with very dim lighting. There's no sign of the hunting that the D30 suffered from; the 10D is locking onto very low contrast subjects in not much light.
I've taken some shots of cards from Kodak Q13 Color Separation Guide and Gray Scale. The colour accuracy looks excellent: very good the FVU and BB conversions and almost as good with the patched CR.
