My 10D and 70-200 LIS arrived home from Canon late afternoon on Tuesday (22nd). It would have been earlier, if I'd been in to answer the door to the UPS man on the previous Thursday. That was pretty good going by Canon since I only delivered the camera to them at midday on Monday, 14 April. Of course, customer expectations were correctly managed by the receptionist (and the automated telephone system), both of whom suggested "10-15 working days". smile

The service report on the 10D says "Adjusted focus tested with 70-200 IS". For the lens it reads "Adjusted focus, cleaned and tested, replaced IS unit, set up tested with 10D". So Craig and the others who diagnosed a faulty IS unit were right. The symptoms (to be sure you can recognise them): camera locks, double-zero shows in the aperture value and lens must be remounted or batteries removed and replaced to clear the lock-up.

That first evening, all I did was put Big Ed and the straps back on and prove that the camera still took pictures. The next morning, I beetled into the garden in the early morning sunshine to see whether everything was OK. I was in such a rush that I forgot my one of my own rules — always check the settings. What a plonker! redface A bunch of pictures taken at ISO 1600! twak Nevertheless, I was so amazed by the quality that I've posted some examples.

I went out later in the day to try to gets some pictures to test the 10D and 70-200 further in the local park that I often visit, but it's half-term (schools are out) and there was not a parking place within half a mile, so I carried on driving and visited my mother. I took a few garden shots with the 70-200 and also some with the 1.4 TC fitted. Does the 10D seem to be performing OK? Judge for yourself.

I'm pretty happy, but I haven't checked all my lenses. I shan't be bothering with a systematic test of focus accuracy — the much-derided ruler test or some alternative smile — unless something is obviously awry.
