I've been taking shots with the 24-70L and my 10D over the last few days. I took a trip to my local cemetery. It was a sunny afternoon and I was able to stop down and get good DOF. The images themselves are nothing special, but I had some fun with a couple of filter from Flaming Pear Software: Mr Contrast and the Melancholytron — 20 bucks US apiece, you can spend hours playing with these puppies to get different creative effects.
Here's a B&W example, and this is a simulated infra-red.
There's a bunch of other stuff (including some freebies) on Flaming Pear site — worth a look.
But this is the picture I really want to show you: it's another "bee on a blue flower" taken, this time, with the 24-70L. This is straight out of C1LE: adjusted, sharpened and cropped. I only loaded it to Photoshop so I could convert to ProJPEG format. This crop is 100% — almost makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
