Hever Castle is the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, on of the more unfortunate of the wives of Henry VIII. It is an attractive building set in beautiful grounds created by William Waldorf Astor in the first decade of the 20th Century, who also built the "Tudor Village" that can be partly seen in some of the pictures. We visited the castle in the middle of August when (as is so often the case with stuff on one's doorstep) we had family staying from overseas. As you can see from the photos, the weather was somewhat changeable. It was breezy and blustery and the light varied from heavy grey cloud to white fluffy cloud with sunshine and blue skies.

The interior of the castle has some fascinating exhibits (of course, the b*****s never let you take pictures inside) and the gardens are lovely, though the rose garden was past its best. Entrance fee was around GBP 8.5 for adults. There are things to entertain the kids. All in all, a recommended day out.

The photos were taken with my 10D and either the EF24-70 L or the EF 135/2 L (the last three shots in the castle gallery and the penultimate four in the garden gallery).
