I archive raw files to CD. I did buy a DVD-RAM drive, but I have found it too slow and the cartridges too expensive. So now I use the DVD as a scratch drive to keep a temporary copy of files that have not been burned to CD. During the course of a month, I work with the raw files in day folders; at the end of the month I move all the files from the individual days to the month folder, and delete the day folder. If there are any special events or trips, I create an folder for each of these under the relevant month. Events such as vacations are stored under the month in which they are started:
A further reorganisation is necessary before burning CD's as the images must be split into 650 mb chunks. I create a folder <yyyy>_<nnn>, where <yyyy> is the year and <nnn> is a sequence number for archived CD's in that year:

Each CD-sized folder is then burned to CD twice.
