One of the things that pushed me over the edge to buy was a comment from Jonathan Wienke who's a regular contributor to several forums. JW is lucky enough to own a 1Ds. He reckons it's worth running NI on regular 100 ISO images from this camera.

I rather like the way that the 10D has rendered the colour and detail of these tiny flowers and the bokeh is wonderfully smooth. This shot was taken using my 70-200 LIS with 500D close-up filter with ISO 100 and 1/4 second at f/20 with a little fill-flash. As you can see, if you check the full image, there's lots of areas without detail to use as fodder for NI. I converted the image using Capture One DSLR LE with minimum noise reduction and sharpening disabled. The NI filter was created as described in the Dummies Guide section and applied at 65%.

This page show a side-by-side comparison of a 100% crop. They are JPGs saved as very high quality to reduce any problems of posterisation, but lossless PNG versions are provided on the page for download. Here are the same images in an overlay presentation. The treated version is better than the untreated one, but the differences are hard (but not impossible) to see at 100%. This page shows a smaller section of the picture at 400%.

I applied sharpening to the treated and untreated images using FocalBlade. I used medium settings in novice mode, but with a focus area as shown here. As you'd expect, the noise has been aggravated, but the difference in noise is somewhat more noticeable in these pictures and at 400%.
