Introduction - Version Reviewed: 1.0.94
Are you a Photoshop 7 user? Do you, like me, find yourself buried in actions? Not able to find what you want quickly and easily? Well, Photoshop Side Click Pro (PSSC) from KSSC Inc. may be just what you need. I've been beta testing PSSC for the last couple of weeks and it's become a standard tool that is always open when I'm using Photoshop.
Like most good ideas, PSSC is a simple concept. It provides customisable buttons rather like the button mode in the Actions palette. But unlike the Actions palette, you can pick and choose what to use and you can organise buttons into logical groups. And the great thing is that there's effectively no limit to the number of buttons you can define.
This is the screen you'll see when you start PSSC (the tab names other than PSSCPro will be different). The buttons here provide some "management functions", for example, the eye icon will start Photoshop, if it is not already loaded. It's the other tabs that can be customised. When you first go to a specific tab, all the buttons will be empty: PSSC Blank Tab
Right-click on a button and the Assign Command Button Dialogue appears: Assign Command Button Dialogue
To define a button, enter then name of an action and the action set it comes from. Note that the action set must be loaded in Photoshop for it to work. You have to do this manually, currently there is no way to get a menu of what is available. Multiple action steps can be defined for each button: Assign Command Button Dialogue Examples
You can assign an icon and/or a four character string to appear on the button. The tool tip text can be customised, otherwise PSSC will default to the action, set name. I'm still developing sets of buttons for my workflow, but things are moving forward: Tab Examples
Each button definition is stored in a BDF file in the folder currently in use for the tab. Each time you need a new category, just create a new folder and started defining buttons. PSSC will remember the tabs in use, but to change a tab, just open the File menu and choose "Open Tab/Button Definition Folder". A browse window will appear so you can navigate to the folder you want: Open Tab Definition Window
