Introduction - Version 5.6.3 26 Jul '04

The Power Retouche plug-ins are a comprehensive set of photographic retouching tools for use with Photoshop. They are also compatible with Paint Shop Pro, Corel Draw, Illustrator, Fireworks. Jan Esmann, the developer, provided me with a copy for review.

There are plug-ins for:

  • Anti-alias
  • Black Definition
  • Brightness
  • Colour Correction
  • Contrast
  • Dynamic Range Compression
  • Edgeline
  • Exposure
  • Golden Section
  • Lens Correction
  • Noise Filter
  • Posterise
  • Radial Density Correction
  • Saturation
  • Sharpness
  • Soft Filter
  • Studio B&W
  • Toned Photos
  • Transparency
  • White Balance

Most of the filters work on images that are 8- or 16-bit in RGB, Grayscale, Duotone, CMYK, Multichannel, or Lab. One or two are more restricted, but the limitations are clearly shown on the pricing page.

Approach to Review

Rather than try to tackle the PR plug-ins en masse, I shall treat each plug-in separately and post each "mini-review" as it is completed. This almost certainly means that the whole business will take some time, but hopefully, the phased approach will yield some benefit for readers. It also means that I reserve the right to go back and change things I have previously written because I've found something new or changed my mind.

Hot links in the table above will indicate which mini-reviews are complete, though drafts may be available through the contents list on the right.
