Introduction

Grain Variations CS2 is now available; this version is compatible with both Adobe Photoshop CS and CS2: a companion to B+W Variations and Toning Variations, this is an easy and realistic way to change the ambience of your images by adding grain. At this time, we will not be offering a standard version of GV. It will be available to anyone who makes the standard donation for B+W Variations.

It doesn't really makes sense to label the grain effects with ISO numbers because film grain varies according to how the film is shot and processed, so we have just ordered the treatments approximately in increasing amounts of grain and numbered them.

Grain Variations has been designed primarily for print use of full-size images, and so the effect is best assessed using a selection to build the previews as the grain is not downsized to match the size of the previews.

The grain settings have been chosen using B&W images for testing. We think they work very well and result in convincing prints. Technically, there's no reason why the script cannot be used with colour pictures, if you like the look of the results, but our attention has been focused on the "artistic" impact with B&W pictures.
